Persistence – DIY music. What does it mean to “make it” in the business.

Years ago I would have answered this question much differently. I would have said that getting signed to a major label, and going on tour is “making it”. Today my answer completely the opposite of that. I want to write, record, and enjoy it while I’m doing it, not worrying about deadlines, meet superficial people, and work until I drop.

I think that once you don’t care if you make it, but still love what you do, it means you’ve made it.

you know what means the world to an independent artist… When a Spotify listener that you don’t know adds you to their playlist called “Fav Music” and places your tracks between the Beatles, and Justin Bieber. Having a lot of people like my music isn’t necessary, it’s enough that I get to see that a Spotify user liked “Wherever You Go” enough to put it on their playlist.
