When I started writing music I had no intention of writing Christmas songs specifically. The blinking Christmas lights, and the scent of pine always takes me back to the days and evening that I would sit on the couch looking out the window at the snow. The finches seemed so happy and peaceful while they ate seed, and flew from feeder to the ground, and then to a nearby tree. I love storytelling, and I generally write about the things that I wish I could experience myself like the perfect romance, and a love story that has a happy ending like many of the classic Hallmark Christmas movies. Though some of the movies, are pretty far fetched when it comes to storyline, I enjoy watching them because I have hope and I still dream. Life is about hope, and love and I will never give up on that. My Christmas playlist is made up of some of my favorite Christmas songs, and I of course have added some of my own Christmas music to the playlist because my blog was created to study algorithms, and to learn how I can expand the reach of my work. The idea of creating a playlist and adding your own work to it is something I learned from some of the wonderful books, and podcasts I have listened to. I will be looking around the web, and on music streaming services to see if there are other independent artists I can add to the holiday playlist this season. Independent artists bring much needed variety and originality to music streaming platforms, but with so many songs uploaded to these platforms everyday we tend to get lost in the volume of material out there. Thank for reading my blog / journal. If you would like to check out my Christmas Playlist on Spotify, I have placed the link below.
“Cold Winter Night” is one of the songs I am working to refine and add guitar leads, with some other minor adjustments. This will take some time as like most independent artists, I work a day job. I enjoy my day job, and it allows me to pay my rent, and have health insurance, it does however; slow the recording process. If anyone would like to check out “Cold Winter Night” I will put the lyrics below with a link to the song on Spotify.
Cold Winter Night
You have the grace
Of a dancer
In front of the fireplace
Your eyes are red
And the only light is the flame
And you sit there alone
Watching it snow
And the faint sweet smell
Of evergreen
As you open up the door
And I can’t speak
It’s a cold winter night
Under Christmas lights
And I’m wondering
If this is just a dream tonight
(Pause in music)
And no-one wants to be alone
On a cold night like tonight
And in your arms
It feels like I’m home
It’s a cold winter night
Under Christmas lights
And I’m wondering
If this is just a dream tonight
Tonight
Oh tonight
Tonight
It’s a cold winter night
Under Christmas lights
I want to be with you
Tonight
