As independent artists, we all want to build great playlists and include our own music on them to introduce our work to a wider streaming audience.
There are some really big mistakes that artists often make when creating and promoting their playlist and it can really derail the main object of the playlist. Here are some things below to consider when playlisting.
1. Never buy streams, it’s the fastest way to get your music removed from a streaming service. Buying plays will not boost your music or playlist in the algorithm. The algorithm can tell the difference between real engagement and fake streams.
2. Engagement is a huge part of how the algorithm interprets your playlist “value”. If you take a bunch of songs and throw them on a playlist and move on the playlist will go nowhere. Playlists need to show engagement and listener interest.
