Beyond the Box: Finding the Vibration That Drives You
In my daily life, I often encounter people who tell me they don’t really have a hobby or a deep passion. It always makes me wonder: What drives them? What keeps them creative, motivated, and eager to experience the fullness of each day?
For me, that answer arrived when I was thirteen years old. I became fascinated with music, bought a cheap guitar, and have spent the last forty years chasing that fascination.
The Infinite Journey of Creation
The beauty of music, or any true passion is that you never actually “finish” it. There is always a new technique to master and an infinite array of sounds to organize. There is a profound thrill in creating a series of sounds in a format that has never existed in quite that way before.
But music is more than just “tunes.” When you strip it down, music is simply vibration.
As a guitarist, part of the joy is tactile. It’s feeling the vibration of the string against your fingertips, bending the metal to shift a note, and adding your own unique “touch” to the sound. I believe humans are drawn to music for two powerful reasons:
- The Lyrical Connection: The stories we tell help us relate to one another and make sense of our lives.
- The Vibrational Draw: This is the unconscious pull. We are physical beings reacting to physical frequencies.
Do We Resonate with Specific Frequencies?
I’ve often wondered if our love for certain music is tied to how frequencies resonate with our subconscious. Scientists have long observed brainwave states like Delta, Theta, Alpha, and Beta. Could it be that certain chords or notes resonate with our internal frequencies or emotional needs?
For instance, a G chord and an E chord have always been my favorites on the guitar. Is it possible that the specific frequencies of those chords align with my own internal state? Perhaps someone else’s “home” frequency is entirely different. The possibilities are endless, but the connection is undeniable.
The Antidote to the “Add-to-Cart” Culture
Whether you paint, bird watch, knit, crochet, or play an instrument, having a passion provides a sense of fulfillment that you simply cannot buy.
In a world where we are conditioned to seek a “dopamine hit” from an online shopping box, there is something much deeper to be said for the act of creation. A package offers a temporary high; a passion offers a lifelong resonance.
Finding that thing that makes you vibrate with excitement is what it means to truly thrive.
