Music, art, and the creative life

My day job is in hospitality; something I would never want to do for a living, but it pays the bills and puts a roof over my head while I do what I love. Writing music, and telling stories by means of song is one of the most fulfilling things I have experienced. Creating something new, something original is satisfying to no end.

For many years, it was difficult for me to understand the perspective of a “non-creative” person when discussing my career. Many times I am pulled into a conversation that leads to some pretty negative comments tossed my way during these conversions. I think it would be interesting to make a list of the rotten advice, and comments I have received from these individuals. I will post some of these below. It used to sting when these were thrown at me, but now I realize why people do it. Although the people making the comments have made me stronger in my pursuit of happiness through my creative outlet, I think it says a lot about human psychology and how the ones making snide remarks like this are actually looking for something that they cannot find in their life.

To be continued…
