The making of Christmas Eve, by Pure Evergreen

Christmas Eve is a magical time, the mystery, the wonder and all the scents of the season. As a boy, I used to sit on the sofa and watch the birds outside the window play, and eat from the feeder, flying from the small bushes in front of the window and back to the feeder. For me it was one of the very few times my stress as a child would be muted, and I could be excited and be at peace.

“Christmas Eve” is a song I wrote about these magical times. It’s not about one single Christmas Eve, it’s all of them as a whole as I was growing up. These were the best times I can remember.

There are several versions of this song. I will share them below if readers are interested in hearing how the song has changed and progressed as technology has grown and become more accessible for the “home recording” person over the years.

I will share several versions of the song below with a brief explanation of the recording process.

This is the first version of Christmas Eve recorded on a tiny Boss Micro BR portable 4 track. The vocals were added by transferring the music to a beginners version of Pro Tools.

For the second version, I hired one of the best piano players in Nashville to transcribe the basics of the song to piano, I then hired a fantastic vocalist from England to record the vocals.

Many years later, I upload the previous versions to Suno AI and had an amazing time experimenting with different genres and versions of the song. Using Suno as a songwriter is like having studio musicians available anytime you need to play and try different song styles.
